Parenzana Museum in Livade
The Parenzana Museum in Livade was opened on November 4, 2007 as a part of the Parenzana – Health and Friendship Trail project financed by the European INTERREG IIIA SLO-HU-CRO 2004-2006 (CARDS2004) program. The museum exhibited objects, documents, photographs, old postcards, milestones and basically everything related to the period of Parenzana railway operations between 1902 and 1935. On April 20, 2011, a renovated and expanded museum was opened to the public, created as part of the PARENZANA II project co-financed by the EU IPA SI-HR 2007-2013 program. The museum has also hired a student for a year to provide visitors with information about the trains, the route and the project.
Baredine Cave in Nova Vas
Baredine Cave, a geomorphological natural monument, was the first speleological area in Istria to be open to visitors. The cave was opened to visitors in 1995. It is located near the settlement of Nova Vas, between Poreč, Višnjan and Tar. The cave is 132 m deep. There are also underground lakes in it, which also reach a depth of up to 30 meters.
Observatory in Višnjan
The Višnjan Observatory is an unusual astronomical observatory located in the attic of a building in the middle of the Istrian town of Višnjan. It was founded by a decision of the Amateur Astronomy Association in 1992, but its origins date back to the 1970s as a result of the great achievements in astronautics at the time. With a later decision of the Association and the Scientific Education Center in Višnjan, the observatory was transformed into an Institute of Astronomy.
Railway model in Vižinada
The full-scale railway model was manufactured by the company Beato Signal in Buje for approximately 6,000 euros. The model weighs around two tons, is 3 m high and 7 m long. It is a model of the locomotive U20, which actually ran on the Parenzana line.
Istria’s cuisine
Under the influence of various foreign and domestic traditions, mixed with traditional cuisine based on native plants, aromatic herbs, seasonal vegetables, seafood and olive oil, the increasingly popular Istrian cuisine has been developed. The best specialties are white truffles, as well as Karst prosciutto, sheep’s cheese, olive oil, seafood and Malvasia and Teran wines.
